Hi.
I have got a problem with jaws and I was wondering if anyone could help me with it.
When I start jaws eloquence starts talking normally but after some words I can hear it stuttering for a few seconds and then my computer restarts.
It even happens when the jaws installer starts so I cannot install it at the moment because as soon as jaws starts talking my computer restarts.
I am not an fs customer I just need the demo of jaws.
All other screen readers work fine on my computer so I don't know what's wrong with jaws.
I also have hal, nvda and I use system access to go as well.
If you can help me with this it would be nice.
Thanks

This is only an idea. Go to program files and clean them up if you have other Jaws related stuff there, then reinstall the demo.

I don't think this is a jaws issue. You might want to clean the old drive as something is hogging memory.

sounds like either a problem with the video intercepting or memory issues. What your computer is doing is dumping all it's memory. It's what they call the blue screen of death... oh no!

See if:
(1) if using 7/vista, go to programs and feature and remove all freedom scientific components. If in xp, use control pannel>add/remove programs.
2. More advanced. go into windows(backslash)system32(backslash)drivers. Delete fsvidmir.sys.
go into windows(backslash)system32 and also delete the fsvid*.* files.
This will clear out your video display drivers and cashes. the JAWS installer should reinstall these for you, provided that you performed step 1 of removing all components that are jaws related-shared included.
It might help to delete the entire program filesfreedom scientific folder. At this point, do not mess with the registry-I've done that and paid the price well.

Hope that helps and won't screw up your jaws... I'd feel horrible if it did.

Hi.
Thanks all for your suggestions.
I will explain to you now how it all started.
In October i bought hal 11 from dolphin and i tried to install it.
After installing it i had the following message every time i restarted my computer.
---------------------------
Fault with Graphics Driver Interceptor
---------------------------
The graphics driver interceptor is not installed.

It will be installed on reboot.
Press Enter to reboot, or Escape to continue running without the interceptor
---------------------------
OK Cancel
---------------------------
But no matter how many times i restarted nothing happened.
Since i was a dolphin customer i contacted them and we tried to fix the problem. At first they told me to download the intersept but it didn't fix the problem.
Then funny enough real player gave me a clue to understand that the problem was more serious than i thought.
RealPlayer works best if your display's screen area is set to 800 x 600 or higher, and the display's colors are set to High Color(16 bit) or higher.
Your display's screen area is currently set to 640 x 480 and the color depth is set to 1 bit.
I send this to dolphin and they gave me some steps to do but i have to say for me who i am not technical they sound too complicated so i let them connect to my computer and do it themselves.
Hi Nikos
These should be the steps you need. Logon to the machine that has the access software installed as an Administrator. Choose Start menu > Run... > Regedit The Registry editor window will open. Navigate to the following registry
key:
-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
-SYSTEM
-CurrentControlSet
-Control
-DisplayChaining
...delete the "DisplayChaining" entry
2.Go into device manager again and uninstall the display adapter (video card). Then Reboot the machine After a reboot Windows should load in generic VGA mode. At this point, install the video card drivers if windows does not do this automatically.
Once done, reboot the machine again.
4. Reinstall Dolphin Interceptor driver
Run the DOLCFGNT.exe file located in the Dolphin product's installation directory, and the interceptor should now install correctly. If you get a "DCM Error 15 - Fixed New Driver " error, ignore this and reboot.
4. After a reboot test Lunar.
The machine should now work properly.
So this fixed my hal issue but as i said above jaws doesn't work yet.
But i can't believe that a single program can make so many problems.
So hopefully now you might be able to advice me better how to fix my jaws problem.
Thanks

That is why we both suggest deleting all things Jaws then installing it clean. If you get the demo directly from the site you'll get the niro drivers and all, but you'll need a clean install. It may or may not work. If worse come to worse have someone repair your windows then install all again. That way you start fresh.

Hi all.
Again thanks all for your suggestions.
I removed everything freedom scientific from my add remove programs list and also the freedom scientific folder from program files.
I couldn't find anything starting with fsvid in system32 so i didn't delete anything from there.
Then i installed jaws again, my computer restarted and jaws started normaly. I got the activation dialogue, i said run as demo and i checked the checkbox for always running as demo and i pressed ok. Then a dialogue comes up saying that if i need to activate jaws i can find it in the help menu etc. After pressing ok there i heard my usual stuttering and the computer restarted again.
After the restart i run jaws again and it worked.
So we will see how it goes.
To be honest i don't use jaws much for my personal needs. NVDA is my primary screen reader. But i might have to do a web accessibility job for testing websites and they like jaws a lot there because when there is a problem with links, forms, graphicks, etc jaws can bring up a list of each and then i can take a screenshot and paste it in my feedback.
Unfortunately nvda only has links, headings and landmarks if i remember right so if a form for example doesn't speak correctly i couldn't take a screenshot.
Anyway thanks again.
